Abstract:
Extractable proteins of the larval and prepupal cuticle, and the completely formed puparia of Gastrophilus intestinalis, an endoparasite, were characterized. The extractable proteins decreased with pupation and reached a minimal level in the completely formed puparia. Most of the high and mid molecular weight proteins appear to be of glycoprotein nature. The extractable cuticular proteins of the larvae, separated by two-dimensional SDS-PAGE, are acidic to slightly basic. The extractable puparial proteins are mainly acidic. New pre-ecdysial proteins of high molecular weight and highly basic isoelectric points were deposited in prepupal cuticle. Because of poor solubility after sclerotization, most could not be extracted after sclerotization.
