Abstract:
Proteolytic activity of the midgut homogenate of Culex (Culex) pipiens larvae showed higher sensitivity of the susceptible strain to the specific inhibitors than the resistant strain. The toxicity of the Bacillus sphaericus var. faiyoum protoxin increased after proteolysis with either pure proteinases or midgut homogenates. Mosquito cell lines of Anopheles pharoensis and Aedes caspius treated with the activated protoxin, either activated by midgut homogenates of both susceptible and resistant C. (C) pipiens larvae, showed higher susceptibility toward them. Toxicity of B. sphaericus var. faiyoum increased many folds to susceptible C. (C) pipiens larvae, on activation of protoxin while it decreased for the resistant larvae.
