TRYPSIN- AND CHYMOTRYPSIN ESTERASE-LIKE ACTIVITY IN THE MIDGUT REGIONS OF THE LARVAL PARASARCOPHAGA HERTIPES (SARCOPHAGIDAE, CYCLORRHAPHA, DIPTERA)

Abstract:
Trypsin-like (BApNA hydrolyzing) and chymotrypsin esterase-like (BTEE hydrolyzing) activities were found in midgut of larval Parasarcophaga hertipes . These activities predominate in the anterior- and posterior-midgut that have mildly alkaline luminal pH (7.5-8.0). The two enzymes had activity optima at pH 9.0, and they could tolerate a pH of 4.0 for 30-45 min. Trypsin-like activity was inhibited by PMSF, TLCK, and SBTI. Chymotrypsin esterase-like activity was inhibited by PMSF, TPCK, and SBTI. The presence and distribution of activities of these alkaline endopeptidases in the different midgut regions are discussed.
